Cosplay Shenanigans

Here you go, anon! The specific animal I’m going for here is a Black Welsh Mountain Ram, but you can modify this look to fit your hair/wig color and animal preference! This is definitely not the most impressive cosmetic work for fauns, nor is it completely my original idea, but I hope you found it helpful. Enjoy~

In which I’ll dole out some fake burn tips for cosplay photo shoots!

Okay so this doesn’t last long with movement as it cracks off, but for a quick photo shoot? It’s great. It’s cheap and quick and really really easy.

You’re going to need:

  • Gelatin
  • Acrylic paint (Red, brown and black)
  • A medium sized sponge

Okay so to start off with, mix the sachets of gelatin with recently boiled water until it makes sticky paste. You can feel it dragging against whatever you’re using to stir it. Scoop the gelatin out, apply it to the person you’re putting the burn on (Be careful! The heat from the water may burn them! So leave time for it too cool a little) and use the smooth back of something (I used the back of a spoon) to create an uneven effect.

Wait for the gelatin to cool and set before painting. Cut your sponge into three sections (One for each colour of paint). Apply a layer of red paint.image

Then mix some red with the brown and apply very gently so it doesn’t cover all the red. (This is easier than it sounds, just dab the sponge everywhere and you should be a-okay :) )

image

Wait for this to dry before applying the final layer of black. Take a fresh sponge and dab on the black lightly so it clings to the very tip of the lumps and around the edges where the burn turns to normal skin to create a scorched effect.

To make the burn seem more realistic a small amount of fake blood (Made by mixing red food colouring and instant coffee) dripped over makes it look more gory. But be careful because that ‘blood’ will not dry.

A word of warning: This does not work well around joints as movements -Will- crack it.

The half body burn took me approximately four hours to complete, while just the arm (At the bottom) took little over forty five minutes. If you have any questions feel free to message me and I will answer :)

Alright, so a couple of days ago someone posted a link to a really cool video tutorial on how to make non-toxic lipstick using crayons. If you haven’t seen it and would like to check it out, it can be found right here! After seeing the tutorial I managed to wheedle Tracy into trying it with me, and after a couple of hours of trial and error we managed to get a pretty good product. So, in the interest of saving people some time and giving a review of the process I’m going to post the results along with a modified recipe!
The video itself called for three simple, household ingredients: 1/2 teaspoon of shea butter, 1/2 teaspoon of castor oil and 1/2 a crayon of your choice. To make the original recipe all you have to do is use (or fashion) a simple double boiler, melt the ingredients together and then pour them into a container.
By the time you’ve completed all the steps you should have a container of lipstick that looks a bit like this:

This method works, but will make a product that is a bit more lumpy and looks like a tint or lipgloss when applied to lips!
For those of you that would prefer to have a more bright, matte end product, however, I would recommend using the following method: put 1/2 teaspoon of shea butter, 1/2 teaspoon of castor oil and 1/3 OR 1/4 of the crayon (in this situation less is more!!) into your double boiler and mix until melted. Then pour the contents of the boiler into your container just like before. After the mix has cooled a little, mix in 1/2 teaspoon (or more) powder foundation!! This is incredibly important, it will thicken and smooth out the lipstick and will, most importantly, help it adhere to your lips.
Now, I should mention that different colors have varying strengths of pigment! That is to say, if you’re making a blue lipstick you shouldn’t need to do much more than add foundation, but colors like green have very weak pigmentation and may need further help to look bright and vivid when applied. You can do this by putting on your lipstick, applying a bit of foundation (either powder or liquid) to your mouth and then reapplying the lipstick!
The end result of this alternative recipe looks like this:

A couple finishing notes: using the tutorial video and these tips should help you make your own non-toxic crayon-lipstick but it’s important to remember that using simple ingredients will yield a simple product. The quality will not be incredible, it will be approximately on par with cheap store lipstick, and it will not taste very good. I’m sure the addition of simple artificial sweeteners might help with this, though I did not try it myself.
All that aside, if you’re in the mood to try your hand at some simple chemistry and you’re looking for a cheap way to get that crazy color of lipstick for your cosplay or night out, this should work for you!!!

Kurloz mouth sewn shut makeup tutorial

homestuckcosplayhelp:

I found this video for it and I think it would be similar to the sewn shut mouth thing that Kurloz has.

Mod note: The tutorial starts about 3 minutes in.  If you use this method, be sure to use thick black thread so it’s noticeable!

Here you go, a complete tutorial for the thing you see in THIS post! :D

To clarify some things, I understand there might have been some confusion in my saying that it was done with “ink” pens. Indeed, some of these are gel pens, but are still standard pens, just in some unusual colors. I’m in Singapore right now and there are a lot of japanese stationery, which are quite fancy; but other than the opaque white pen, these are pretty basic. There is no photoshopping involved, just a lot of smearing and rubbing and messy fingers. ^___^

The original post was indeed done while I was bored in biology class in high school; as to why I did not get caught/stopped while drawing something so elaborate, let’s just say that all of my teachers have resigned themselves to the fact that I am a doodle machine who cannot be stopped. I get awesome grades, so they can’t complain. XD

Do send me pictures if you decide to try this out, I would really LOVE to see it! If you have any questions, please direct them to my ask box~

(The end result for this one isn’t quite as pretty as in the original post; I don’t exactly have a set of rules to draw this by, so I had to figure out how to do it again. It didn’t turn out quite the same. :<)

rebloging because it’s almost halloween uwu

Makeup!

homestuckcosplayhelp:

I’ve seen a lot of posts on here about different types of makeup and eyeshadow and lipstick etc~ But I found a company that has VERY pigmented eyeshadow and their products are lip-safe and all that jazz. Here! I hope this helps some people :3
